Our Environment

In our school life we have learnt general definition of environment. Everything that is around us is our environment. It means small insects to biggest elephants, air to water, sound to light etc-all these things are elements or members of our environment. We know man is the best creature of the almighty. So they are the leader of environment. They have responsibilities to save this environment. They should keep in mind that safe environment ensures safe life for children.
But what are we doing? Most of us excess generous to think about environment. We are destroying our forests, natural hills and capturing the flowing area of rivers, cannels. Once there was deep forest, beast lived there, but now on the same place people have built houses, started farming. As a result we have lost a lot of animals and trees forever.
Due to lack of trees sufficient rain is now rare. Sudden storm, sudden flood hamper our lives. Moreover we use various aerosols what are the sources of dangerous gas CFC that destroys ozone layer and causes Green House Effects. Though poor countries generate a very small portion of generated CFC comparing with rich countries, they suffer a lot.
Now necessary steps should be taken immediately. We should not cut any tree without proper reason. If we are bound to cut, then we must plat at least two seeds. The huge uses of different aerosols should be minimized and we should try to give up it properly. Children should be taught in such a balanced way that they become conscious about environment. We must think, this is our environment that looks after us and we should look after it.

Law against smoking// A Paper-Tiger

I have a habit of walking. Every afternoon I walk. Actually there are two reasons of my walking. First, I think walking and observation go hand to hand. I enjoy watching the lives of various people. If you use vehicle you can’t see anything properly. Second, as I am a student so walking is the best solution of saving money.
Any way! We know smoking is very harmful for health. From our very boyhood it is taught, too. Moreover, on every cigarette packet it is boldly printed that smoking is injurious to health. But we can’t give up smoking properly. When I walk, I find many smokers. Most of them are young students. Drivers of different vehicles are used to play the role of chain smokers. Some times I am astonished to get our few teachers smoking without care. It’s seemed most funny when I see a doctor is smoking. Doctor’s duty is to encourage public to give up this bad habit. But when advisor is smoker, nothing to do!
Our government established a law against smoking. Now it is forbidden in public place. But enforcers don’t apply this law. Moreover, it is seen often police smoking. Day by day that law has become a Paper-Tiger. I think we should think about it.

A piece of sweet smile

Generally most of the foreigners consider Bangladesh as a poor country that is full of rivers and most of the times of a year she goes under flood water. Often devastating storms attacks here. But we know what the reality is. Foreigners’ idea is not properly correct.
Once we were very poor. But now we are struggling against poverty. Now it’s rare the occurrence of starvation that was often happened those days. Now we are able to fight against flood and storm. Day after day people are being interested in education. At present above 60% of total people of Bangladesh can signature their name. Once the number of readers of newspaper is very poor. Hopefully it is noticed every morning from rickshowpular to professor, everybody reads newspaper. Public have become conscious about politics, economics and overall situation of the country. Actually they want to know and discuss on various topics based on Bangladesh and outside world.
If we try to imagine the communication sector just five years ago, what do we see? That time mobile phone is very rare due to its high cost. We had to depend on telephone to contact our friends and family. There were some areas where land phone was not available. Now it’s rare to find out a person without mobile that is the best way to communicate with nearest and dearest person whatever mind wants. Think about computer. Once it was easily calculated the number of computers and their users existed here. Now in every district, every thana and even in many villages computers are available. A huge number professionals and general people including students use computer, internet here. Day by day we are trying to develop the country.
Some times we may find some ambitious persons who like to say, there is noting good here. Foreign country is better than this country. Our people know nothing, etc, etc. I think they don’t love this country. They have not proper sense to feel the sweet song of birds, greenery of paddy field and rhythmic sound of flowing water of river of our country. Yes I agree that a lot of costly and amazing things are not found here. But noting is 100%. Our people’s demand is not endless. They just want to be happy getting meal three times per day. They are not hunkering after money. They know how to be satisfied. Have you seen the sweet smile of a poor beggar after taking his meal? I have seen it. That is really priceless. A proper, real image of a happy man! You may get a lot of nice, costly, artificial materials in developed foreign country. But you can’t get there a real piece of sweet smile by all the wealth of world.

Cleaning Day in Our Campus

Cleanliness is a smart habit of life. All should try to clean themselves and around place where they live in. Every religion encourages its followers to be clean both in physically and mentally. But in practice what do we do? Its rare to find a person who takes off torn paper or useless any packet from his walking way. Most of times we think- it’s not my duty. Labors of City Corporation or servants will clean it. It’s a prestigious issue for me! Actually we are not enough conscious about cleanliness. So we think so. But this poor conception should be changed. In order to make people conscious about cleanliness, a cleaning day was organized in Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET) campus.
In initial campaigning of cleanliness and cleaning day a rally was arranged at 16 March, Thursday morning in RUET campus. The rally was opened by RUET VC Dr. A.F.M. Anowarul Haque. A lot of teachers and students participated in the rally cordially. Among them our teacher Dr. Md. Shahiduzzaman was present. He was the dream maker of organizing cleaning day here. The rally moved through whole campus.
Our main job of cleaning day was performed 18 March, Saturday morning. A lot of students and teachers started together their journey of cleaning the campus after opening the ceremony by VC sir. Its really amazing scenery! Our teachers were cleaning the dust materials by their own hands with us. We were informed by our Sir Dr. Md. Shahiduzzaman that in many foreign universities arrange cleaning day annually when all teachers and students clean their varsity by own hands. It’s not a matter of dishonor. There is no shy of doing self tasks by self hands. Any way! A three hours long program was hold during that day. We think and hope our next cleaning day will be more effective and more exciting with all students and teachers’ participation of RUET.
Perhaps RUET is the only university that organized first such a cleaning day that is really praiseworthy.

Young mobile!

Now it’s rare to get a young star without mobile phone. Even school boys and girls use mobile in huge rate at present. A question arises-what they do by mobile? Generally they use it to communicate with others. But most of times their accounts are balance free. That’s why they use to miscall in order to remember their friends and others. The use of miscall is vastly seen in classrooms. A teacher is giving lecture. But my mind is out of control. Boring lecture! So there is no alternative of miscalling. We start miscall-miscall game!
Some days ago mobile companies began competition to free service. That time it was noticed a lot of young passed nights sleepless. In our hall I saw many my friends continued gossiping through cell facing cool air and mosquitoes’ attack whole night. Most of them were dozing during class. But they seemed to be happy as they had succeeded to proper use of free service of cell companies.
But now the situation has changed. Free days have been mostly finished. Now at the time of talking we have to conscious about our mobile balance. Governments have thought about the future of young and their study. That’s why they ordered mobile companies to cancel free offers. But strangely they don’t think about the high call rate. Perhaps they forget it. Would you please think about it?

Think about tree

Trees are the speechless children of nature. Giving oxygen, fruits, wood, raw materials for paper, cloth, medicine trees play the role of friends of men. During summer they give us not only shadow but also desired refreshes. They protect our houses from devastating storm. Broken tendency of current flowing river can be minimized by trees. There are many advantages of trees. It’s hard to find out any demerit of trees. They are really our friends. They are very caring for us.
All these I just have said are taught in our school and college life through different essays based on trees. So all we know and believe that tree is our friend. But in practical what behavior do we show to tree? Often it is seen in newspaper that powerful persons cut a lot of ancient trees without thinking much, just for money beside highway.
You may say-we arrange tree plantation week during rainy season every year. Yes we do it. But is there any plat that can be groomed up in a balanced way without proper care? We just plat. Some times like us, local MP, minister do it in such a way that they may get media coverage as the leader is very conscious about nature and trees. But after planting a plat most of us forget about its care. It is really unwise attitude. We should be more caring about this natural friend ‘tree’.

Congratulations Bangladesh!

It was Wednesday, 22 February, 2006. Unfortunately the electricity was not available at RUET campus. At 10 o’clock morning we were being anxious to be more anxious due to no power supply. What could we do? The cricket match between Bangladesh and Srilanka was going to be held. We were waiting at the TV room of our hall. But no views were available as there was no electricity. As a result TV was sleeping! About 50 students were present in TV room. Had they nothing to do? Yes, they had. One of our friends brought a radio that broadcasted match. We started hearing. Hurrah! Out! Catch! After regular interval those type sounds were heard around the radio. Hearing our shout about 100 students gathered beside the radio. Suddenly one of our friends brought an UPS that gave 15 minutes of power supply. Thanks him. At last we began to watch our deep expected match. After 10 minutes another UPS was come. Then another was come. Then another…about 30 UPS was supplied to enjoy the whole game.
In result we won bravely. We defeated the former world champion. Most of our students came out with our beloved national flag. In RUET campus various parties were existed. But that day I found just one parties, just one flag, and just one slogan, we the Bangladeshi. Congratulations Bangladesh!!!

Our bad luck…

I like walking. I always expect for a moonlit night when I may bath with the shine of full moon. It’s exciting. Last night I had an opportunity to walk in such a night. The sky was clear, cloudless but the moon was not in full shape. It shocked me. I found a sad moon. At 11-45 PM I went out of my room. One of my friends joined me. I found some boys who were going to Shaheed Minar of our campus. Most of them carried bunch of flowers. We picked up some flowers from garden of our hall and participated with them. I know flowers are beautiful on tree and children with mother. But we have no alternative. Any way. After sometimes we reached to Shaheed Minar. I was astonished that a lot of police were present there. It is praiseworthy that they came to ensure our security. But its our failure that after independence of 35 years, we can’t celebrate the international mother language day freely, I mean free from fear. We are always afraid of beast that may happen again bomb blast or any other destructive occurrence. Really it’s our bad luck…really…!

A song for Bangladeshi bloggers

I am very much glad to hear that 'The Dhaka Bloggers Meet' is going to be held. It is being noticed most of the regular bloggers feel excitation for the meeting. What will we do? What will be the topic of our meeting? Will we provide T-shirt? What will be written on it? Is there any sponsor? Etc. Many questions are being raised. Various ideas have been arrived. I don't know what would be decision. Anyway! In addition I want to present an idea of mine. I don't know it is possible or not. Actually there should be a theme song. In this case Mac Vai may help us. I have written a poem for 'The Dhaka Bloggers Meet'. But I don't know how to sing. So renowned rocker Mac Vai can turn this poem to a song if you all like this idea & off course poem and if Mac Vai wants.

Blog // The Window of Heart

Sun rises, sun sets
Kite flies, bird sings,
River flows, life goes
We write these things.
Child's laugh, old's cry
We capture the image,
Beggars' sorrow, night queen's shy
We show on blog-page.
We see, we write
We think, we fight,
For the truth
The life, the light.
We write, we show
We love Bangladesh,
None as like her
None as fresh.

Eid is coming.....but..........

Today I will leave my campus evening to go my home town barisal. Eid is coming. We are going to enjoy. But a lot of poor cant. I saw some of them stations, beside street without proper cloth at deep winter night. I am a student. Though I want to help them but I cant due to various lacks of mine. But I do at my best. Few days ago I with some friends collected cloths from our halls and distributed among needy at station & other places. But thats not enough. During this enjoyable time of eid we should not forget them as they are our brothers & sisters as we all are bangladeshis.
